What should I check during a test drive of a used car?

Start the engine cold and listen for unusual noises, then check that the aircon blows cold. While driving, test the brakes, steering, and gear shifting, and watch for vibrations, pulling to one side, or warning lights on the dashboard. After the drive, look under the car for leaks. If possible, have a trusted mechanic inspect it before you pay.
